EDUCATION INITIATIVES

To ensure holistic education that affirms the dignity of the Child, women and the families in the community and empower them. Our organization conducted programs that focus  on every young person’s potential to learn and be successful. Our educational programming is intended for youth as well as for the child to focus on the strengths of young people and children, and the belief that through education, opportunities are created for youth and their families. These youth centered programs have been developed and informed through the thoughtful input of the many youth and children who learn with us.

The rural area of India are home to a large number of children who remain outside the portals of school, either earning a small wage to supplement the family income as worker in fields, quarries, brick-kilns cottage industries or petty business or what is even more common as unseen hand unpaid and unacknowledged that facilities the work of adult men and women. These large numbers of children are denied their right to childhood in all its connotation. The organization open an English medium school for the under privileged children. The families of these children do not have capacity to provide even one time meal to their children. Their only source of income is either sending their children for begging on the street, picking rags from the roads or work as child laborers.

Support school-going children from vulnerable families by providing study materials, arranging special coaching programs, sharing course fees and encouraging children to enroll in vocational and professional education.

1. ADULT LITERACY PROGRAM

This program was conducted in Rohru block of Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh with the aim to eradicate illiteracy among the age group from 15-60 and help them to enhance their living quality. We provide books, materials and distribute light to our teachers.  We had conducted a literacy center in 10 villages of Rohru block covering 300 learners.   The program includes awareness about one self-community, society, and the nation, about social, economic, political, cultural, environment, developmental health hygiene, superstitions and moral teaching which helps the building of character in Learners.  The key role of this program is to allow workers to develop their skills and acquire new ones. In the wake of economic crises, it gives adults a chance to retrain, which is particularly important to people who will need to work past pension age and need support to train for a new role. During the program we were able to learn simple arithmetic, and how to read and write. Some of them learners started their SHG to start income generation for better living standards.  It not only helps them to become self-sufficient but also helps in the development of their families.

2.  NEW LIFE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

(OFFLINE HOME CLASSES FOR NEEDY STUDENT)

At present the school is running in a rented house. There are 268 students out of which 232underprivileged children from Sapera, Banjara, economically backward communities. The age range of school students is from 3 year to 13 years. There are 14 staff working on an honorarium basis.   This year has been challenging for our teachers, parents and students due to Covid-19. It imprisoned everyone in the house, but its worst effect was upon the education of the children. The lockdown before their annual examination weakened the preparedness of the children and for the last 10 months, the children are kept away from their studies. The distance is likely to continue more. There is an apprehension that the dropout rate of children is increasing due to lack of proper guidance. Communities are suffering with no income and struggling to meet their daily needs even after unlock-3. Our target areas are mostly farmers, laborers, migrant laborers, waste pickers, single parents, BPL family, widows, drug addicts and prisoners etc. Such parents are not able to tutor their children at home. We identified 111 children of above categories who are not continuing online study in our school, due to not having smartphones and they are not capable of purchasing the phone as they are thinking about their basic need to take care of their families first. Also some of the parents force their children to work in grocery shops, tea shops and even in mechanic shops instead of continuing their study. Those children are from the villages of Redapur, Dhaki , Chharba ,Ghomola, Khusalpur. Eidgarh, Sahaspur and Juglat chowki of Sahaspur block of Dehradun district.  The board of members and by the initiatives of some of the teachers we conducted home visit classes known as offline classes for these students which helps them to continue their studies.  In this initiative teachers are divided into 5 groups and teaching door to door to cover each and every student. Though it is a tough decision but the hard work of our teachers and the interest in the study of our children this would be accomplished and because of it 111 students continue their studies and complete the session.   And for the rest of the students we conduct online classes.
